Getting started
Do we both need to sign up?
Yes. Each of you has your own free account. One of you starts the space and gets a six-character code, and the other signs up, taps “I have a code” and enters it. You can use some of Intimate on your own, and the main features (needs, in sync, your person’s card) need both of you.
How does my person join?
Share the six-character code from Home or Profile. They sign up, then tap “I have a code” on the welcome screen. A space holds exactly two people, so once the code’s been used it stops working for anyone else.
How do I get it on my phone?
Intimate is live as a web app, so you add it to your Home Screen instead of downloading it from a store. There’s no App Store or Google Play listing yet. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share and choose “Add to Home Screen”. On Android, use your browser’s menu and choose “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”. It then opens full-screen from its icon. The Get the app page has the steps.
Does it work on Android and on a computer?
Yes to both. It runs in any modern browser, and on a big screen it gets a sidebar. It’s built for phones because that’s where you’ll use it.
Is it free?
It’s free for now. We’ll tell you well ahead of anything changing.
Is it for adults only?
Yes. Intimate is for adults.
Privacy
Who can see what I share?
Only your person. Your check-in, what you’d love today, what you share, your habits, your needs and their answers, the connection points you tick, and your cycle (if you turn it on) are visible to the two of you. Your Log is visible only to you. Other couples and other users can’t read your space.
Can my person see my Log?
No. Only the person who wrote a Log note can read it. It’s a place for things like “they lit up when…” or ideas for a surprise.
Is it end-to-end encrypted?
No. Your data is protected by your login, by rules that separate each couple’s data and by encrypted connections, but it isn’t end-to-end encrypted. That means the people who run Intimate can technically access the database.
Where is my data stored?
The app runs on Vercel and the database on Supabase.
Do notifications show what we wrote?
Not by default. The lock screen says something like “Sam shared a need 💫”, with no detail. You can turn on “Show details” if you want them. Quiet hours (10pm to 7am, your time) are on by default, and notifications stay off until you turn them on, device by device.
Do you show ads or sell my data?
The app runs no ads and carries no ad or analytics trackers, and we don’t sell data.
What happens to our data if we break up, or if I want to leave?
Today you can’t delete your account or leave a space from inside the app. We know that’s a gap. Until it’s built, email hello@getintimate.app and we’ll delete your data.
Using it
Is it going to be awkward?
It might feel a little awkward the first time. You don’t have to say anything out loud: you tap a mood, write up to three words, and your person taps an answer. Needs can be tender, playful or sexual, in your own words. The suggestions built into the box are gentle ones, and more direct wording only shows up if one of you has typed it before.
Do we have to use it every day?
No. Nothing is required and there’s no streak counter, so skipping a day has no effect. Reports fill in from the days you do check in.
What if I’m not in the mood, or want to say no?
Tap “Later” or “Not today”. You don’t need to give a reason, and you can add a note if you like (“Not tonight, but yes on Friday”). You can also set “In the mood” to “Not today” in your check-in, and your person sees it on Home before they ask.
Will my partner actually use it?
Most features need both of you. It may help that each part is small: a few taps, nothing required, and you can start with one feature. “Today I’d love…” takes about five seconds. You can send them a message from the Get the app page, and they join with your code.
Do I have to track my cycle?
No. It’s a personal switch in Profile, it’s off until you turn it on, and it’s offered to everyone. If you turn it on, your person sees today’s phase and gets heads-ups like “period is due tomorrow”. You can switch it off any time.
Limits and advice
Is this therapy or medical advice?
No. Intimate is a shared daily check-in with heads-ups and reports. It doesn’t diagnose, treat or advise. Cycle predictions and forecasts are a guide only and aren’t meant for contraception or fertility planning. If you’re struggling, a counsellor or a doctor is the right person to talk to.
Is it only for a man and a woman?
It’s for any two people. Under “I’m a”, Profile offers Woman, Man, Non-binary, Trans woman, Trans man and Prefer not to say. That choice is only used for the optional display mode that hides your person’s name behind “Her”, “Him” or “My person”. It doesn’t switch anything else on or off.
How accurate is the forecast?
It’s a guide. It uses your last ninety days and each weekday’s usual pattern, leans on your overall average at first and shows a likely range. It needs about two weeks of check-ins to say much, and it improves the more you both share.
What can’t Intimate do?
It only covers what the two of you enter on your phones. Important conversations still need to happen in person. If your relationship is going through a hard time, a counsellor can help more than an app can. It also needs both people to be willing to use it, and each of you enters your own data.
